LAB FOR LEADERS

LAB FOR LEADERS

What is 'LAB FOR LEADERS'?

We put great emphasis on leadership skills and there are great many offerings how we can learn and build them. Companies spend a lot of money on leadership development year after year but most of the time with a rather mediocre success. This is no surprise. If you really want to become a great leader, you need to focus on developing the characteristics that make you standout as a leader. And these central characteristics are self-centredness, integrity and dedication to your and your company’s vision. This is what Lab for Leaders is focusing on.

Lab for Leaders is a place of practical reflection. The focus of attention is on the manager or the management team.

The Lab for Leaders method of practical reflection is philosophical in nature, not psychological. The focus of attention is not on what causes challenges but on how to deal with them constructively in the context of the corporate vision, the structure of the management team and the integrity of the manager.

"Many are stubborn in pursuit of the path they have chosen, few in pursuit of the goal."

(Friedrich Nietzsche)

FAMILY, SOCIETY & WORK

Like most people, managers find themselves constantly dealing with conflicting demands in their professional, personal and socio-economic spheres. Each area represents a separate world which exists in a dynamic state of interdependence with the other two. Each world comprises its own structures and challenges.  Every manager’s self-image is moulded by their ability to accept responsibility for each of these worlds consciously, authentically and creatively. Lab for Leaders takes managers and management teams (back!) along this path, which is a source both of fascination and enduring promise.

Lab for Leaders takes managers and management teams (back!) along this path, which is a source both of fascination and enduring promise.

A manager is not only expected to be able to function within the three spheres – job, family/friends and society – but also to exercise a formative influence on them. Three factors make it difficult to meet this expectation: (1) Although all three areas are in certain ways dependent on each other, they are all also subject to their own dynamic processes. (2) The stakeholders in the three areas are usually very different from each other: partners, children and friends in the private realm; staff, superiors, directors, customers and shareholders in the professional world; competitors, politicians/lobbyists and media in the socio-economic sphere. (3) Added to this, there is the challenge that in the whirlpool of daily challenges we are often unable to see the wood for the trees and can quickly fall into the trap of doing things by rote.

creativity and the power of reflective thought

The philosophical foundation for Lab for Leader combines dialectics, the conscious application of concepts, and disciplined argument with the analysis of the client’s complex situation in life.

"Intelligence is what you use when you don't know what to do." (Jean Piaget)

In this creative and focussed environment, dusty old routines can be interrupted; new ideas and approaches can be generated and tested as if under laboratory conditions. A genuine leadership profile will gradually emerge, enabling the manager to tackle the complexities of everyday life with independence of thought, judgement and action.
